3 Ways to Help You Maintain Healthy Habits This Holiday Season

healthy holidays

The time is here! Planning parties, shopping for loved ones, an abundance of amazing food, alcohol, and the constant never ending things to do before Christmas and New Years.

During this time of the year, the number one question that I always get asked is, “How can I keep my healthy habits during the holiday season?”

I personally believe if you are just “interested” in living a healthy lifestyle and working out, this time of the year will expose that. On the flip side, if you are fully committed, you will find a way and persevere despite all of the chaos.

Let’s face it, sticking to a workout regimen, eating healthy, and incorporating a healthy lifestyle is no easy task. It takes a conscious effort with a whole lot of self-discipline. Anything that requires great self-discipline usually takes us out of our comfort zone.

As soon as we leave our comfort zone, the excuses tend to pile up and the little voices in our head begin to give us every reason possible as to why we shouldn’t follow through any longer.

Then, add on everything else that comes along with this time of the year. Without a deliberate effort, chances of sticking to your workout regimen and eating healthy become that much more difficult. Now, this isn’t to say don’t enjoy yourself and devour all of the wonderful holiday food with family and friends, but the goal is to not fall completely off like what happens to so many.

I personally believe this is one of the greatest times of the year. Spending time with those we love dearly, eating our favorite dishes, and enjoying all of the holiday festivities that we still remember as a child. Also, this is the time to lay down a firm foundation for the upcoming year. To plan, organize, and set ourselves apart so we hit the ground running once 2014 rolls around.

Here are 3 ways to help you maintain healthy habits this holiday season.

1.) Write it down. Just as it’s vitally important to write down our goals, it’s as equally important to write down our health and fitness goals, especially during this time of the year. With all of the distractions looming, writing down that you want to still workout four days a week and stick to your eating plan five days a week or whatever it may be, increases your chances to actually do so. I write down on a note card and a post-it-note that I will keep to my six days a week training routine and continue eating healthy. This is a constant reminder for me to stick to the plan regardless of what distractions come my way.

2.) Accountability partner. This one can play to your advantage exceptionally well. Talk with a family member or friend who has the same drive as you to keep your healthy habits this holiday season and come up with a strategized plan.

It could be that you guys talk every day, once a week, or every weekend, whatever it is, accountability works! For example, there were times when I got hit with a countless amount of distractions and it kept getting harder and harder. After having an encouraging conversation with my accountability partner, I was quickly reminded that I’m in this for the long haul and must stick to the plan.

3.) What gets scheduled gets done. Just as you schedule doctor appointments, meetings, and important functions, schedule your work outs and plan out your eating routine. This won’t last as long as it sounds. I typically use Sunday night to reflect on the past week and schedule everything for the upcoming week.

If you look at my calendar on my phone, you will notice that Monday through Saturday every workout is scheduled at a specific time along with my eating regimen. This is a game changer.

I hope you enjoyed my 3 ways to help you keep your healthy habits this holiday season. The only thing that matters is that you are able to find something that works for you.

What works for me might not necessarily work the same for you. Play around with it and have some fun. I wish you and your loved ones a joyous, healthy, and happy holiday season.

The Power is Already Within You

The Power is Already Within You

The past failures. The past mistakes. The past heartbreaks…..Let them go! Stop letting things from the past weigh you down and paralyze you from tapping into the amazing God given power that is already within you.

Directing your focus towards everything that went wrong in your life will do nothing but keep you exactly where you are at. If you want to move forward in life is which I am sure you do, you must be willing to press forward and focus on all of the positive in your life.

The seeds of greatness are planted in each and every one of us. Not in some of us, but all of us. We all have big dreams and strong desires. Things we want to accomplish, things we want changed, and things we want to do throughout the course of our lives. But so often, life has a tendency to get in the way. Big plans never fall through. Tragedy strikes once again. This can create an atmosphere for settling to take place. Settling for second best and less than what you deserve.

Don’t settle for second best. Don’t put the power and greatness that is already within you on the back burner. We are all here for a purpose. Nothing in life is a waste and most certainly not yourself. Instead of focusing on the losses in your life, focus on the wins. No matter how big or small they may be, get in the habit of counting your blessings. Your wins. The moments of happiness.

Do everything in your power to get your fire back. Claim your greatness and recreate your swagger. Develop and search for a deeper meaning for your life. Continually put yourself in a positive, faith-filled environment everywhere you go. Don’t wait for others to do good until you do good, take initiative and set the tone. Be the leader you were born to be.

The message that I want to get through to you today is that you are already equipped with everything you need to make your life phenomenal. To make your life a masterpiece and leave a spectacular legacy that lives much longer than you do.

Don’t wait any longer to speak and think victory over your future. Every day remind yourself how powerful you truly are. Say over and over to yourself, “I am a winner. No loss or defeat can override the greatness that is already within me. I am blessed with an overwhelming amount of joy.”

The power is already WITHIN YOU.

Live Your Life Like it Matters

Life That MattersIf you have made mistakes or failed in the past, so what!  If you have been a success and everything is going just fine, you can do better!

Every moment in life is an opportunity to get better.  No matter what has happened in the past, whether good or bad, we should always be searching for new ways to grow, learn, and capitalize on past failures and successes.

There is something beautiful within you.  There is something powerful within you.  There is something extraordinary in you.  Don’t live life out of past experiences.  Live out of your imagination.

Take a moment and look around.  See all of the amazing possibilities that are all around you.  Envision yourself living your best life.  Picture yourself achieving your biggest goals and dreams.  How does that make you feel?  Capture that moment and never forget how it makes you feel.

It’s very important to never stop running toward your dream.  You have everything you need to make your life a masterpiece.  Right now isn’t the time to get caught up in the many distractions that loom all around you.  Right now isn’t the time to give up and let fear override your biggest aspirations and dreams in life.  However, right now is the right time to keep believing and working all day and night on your dream.  Right now is the right time to give new meaning to your life.  Right now is the right time to live with passion and make the most out of today.

Don’t go another day postponing what’s important to you.  No one will ever just hand you a life worth living.  That will come from a burning desire to do more and become more daily.  Accept nothing less than world class.  Accept nothing less than excellence.  Accept nothing less than living what’s inside of you.

Do everything in your power to not just go through this day, but to GROW through this day.  Live your life like it matters, because it most certainly does!

Talk To Yourself Like a Champion

We all fall victim to negative self-talk from time to time, saying things about ourselves such as, “I never do anything right.  I look terrible.  I’m not smart enough.  I don’t have the right resources.”

As Proverbs 23:7 says, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”  In other words, the way we talk to ourselves will most definitely affect our lives.  Start talking to yourself like a champion.  Repeat over and over again to yourself, “There is nothing average about me.  I wasn’t put here to be just ordinary.  I am special and I have greatness within me.”

When you switch the negative self-talk with positive and uplifting words, the quality of your life will start to change.  One of the biggest misconceptions is that we need materialistic things or to reach a certain level of success before we can be fully happy and live a great life.

We create our own happiness and one thing you have to understand is that no amount of success will replace negative or self diminishing self-talk.

Next time you find yourself downplaying your ability or second guessing a situation, talk to yourself like a champion.  No one will believe in you if you don’t believe in yourself!

Action tip to help talk to yourself like a champion throughout the day:

Write powerful statements and uplifting quotes on a notecard.  This exercise has helped me tremendously with battling negative thoughts or situations during my day.

The key is to keep your notecard in your purse, wallet, or pocket so you can easily access it.  Look at this card and repeat the words with conviction.  If you make this a habit, you will begin to see increased motivation and boosted confidence levels.

You Are Not Average

You Are Not AverageToday, many people will walk around and operate not knowing who they really are.  Having no aim in life and just “hoping” things work out for the best.  Instead of wandering around not knowing who you are or what you really want out of life, connect with your inner-self.

What makes you happy?  If you could achieve one goal this year that would change the course of your entire life, what would it be?  What are your values?

You’re not average so don’t wander around with average habits.  Only the average don’t know who they are or what they want out of life.  You have the opportunity to make today a masterpiece, but that can only happen if you know exactly what you want out of this day.

Set a purpose for today, and then do everything in your power to fulfill that purpose.  Little daily victories might seem like not much, but over time they accumulate into big achievements.  For the people and tasks that don’t align with who you are as a person, pay them no attention.

Every single one of us has a deep burning desire planted within us.  Your job is to find out what that deep burning desire is and then work day and night towards making that desire a reality.

That’s where true happiness lies. Look out through the eyes of faith today and see your dreams coming to pass.  See yourself walking in abundance in every area of your life!

This Is Your Time To Shine

This is your time to shine

This is your time to shine!  You are equipped and empowered with everything you need to make your life meaningful.  Please understand that the only limitations you have are the limitations you place on yourself.  You have the ability to rise higher, overcome every obstacle, and experience greatness!

Instead of looking far ahead into the future, learn to love your life right now, right where you are.  No one ever said you wouldn’t experience storms, but you do have the power to find peace in the midst of storms.  Today, trust that everything is working in your favor.

Don’t try and cheat looking for shortcuts in life.  Regret eats millions of people up every single day.  Don’t let today come to an end with you having regret about anything you did or didn’t do.  If there is something you want to do, do it!

If there is someone who means the world to you, tell them!  If there is a dream you have been putting off, pursue it wholeheartedly!

This is your time to shine.  Let your life and actions speak so loud in such a beautiful and special way that people can’t help but want to take their life to the next level when they see you. You are special. You are powerful.

Are You Willing To Pay The Price?

One of the major differences that separates the average from the great is their willingness to sacrifice. The average person who has achieved just average results will complain about not being satisfied with where they are in life. They will keep telling you over and over again about all of the reasons as to why they aren’t where they think they should be in life.

On the other hand, the greats make no complaints at all. They know that when you put in the work every day, you don’t have to worry about the results. They fully understand that their willingness to pay the price and sacrifice greatly will lead them to the results they were looking for.

Every day an ordinary person is achieving extraordinary success because of their willingness to sacrifice and outwork everyone else.

Everything worthwhile in life has a price tag, and that goes for  your biggest goals and dreams in life as well. Are you willing to pay the price?

When I was a junior in high school, I made a decision and declared that I wanted to get a division one scholarship. Mind you, I was coming off a very mediocre junior season with no collegiate teams taking notice. The first thing I did was ask myself if I was willing to pay the price.

Instead of enjoying myself on the weekends with friends, going to parties, or taking time off, I devoted seven days a week towards training and refining my craft as a football player. Before the start of my senior season my sacrifice and willingness to pay the price started to pay off. When it was all said and done, I earned nineteen division one scholarships.

Even though athletics is what introduced me to the importance of making sacrifices for worthwhile goals, the same goes for every area of our lives. I’m sure the goals and dreams you have for your life are enormous and very worthwhile to you, which means you have to ask yourself if you are willing to pay the price.

Everything worthwhile in life doesn’t come easily. Financial independence, losing a certain amount of weight, starting your own business, or even having a successful marriage. It all comes with a price that you have to be willing to pay in order for it to become a reality.

For the goals and dreams that you are currently working towards, ask yourself every day if you are willing to pay the price. Think of all the amazing benefits that you would experience if you were to achieve your goal or dream. When you start imagining and visualizing in clear detail what it would be like to make your dream a reality, you will develop a deep desire to willingly pay whatever price.

Leave the excuses aside. When you are willing to pay the price and sacrifice greatly, you will never finish second to anyone and be well on your way to live a life of greatness!

You Are Powerful!

You have to understand  that you, yes you, are far greater than any problem or disappointment that may be present in your life.

I don’t care who you are or what you have accomplished, we all go through disappointments in life and struggle from time to time with coming to the realization just how special we truly are.  Think about it, let’s say you have a goal that you want to achieve so badly in life, but three months down the road  you come to find out that you didn’t reach your mark.

What happens?  You quickly rush to start blaming yourself and question your abilities and talents.  You start to listen to the negative voices that keep rolling in and out of your head.  Feeling powerless.  Feeling like a victim instead of a victor.

What you have to understand and never lose sight of is that you have more power and control inside of you than you think you do.  Some people get hit so hard from the outcomes of life that they lose complete sight of their uniqueness and wonderful talents they have been blessed with.

Failures and disappointments aren’t present to degrade our confidence and love for ourselves.  It is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do in life.  Learning how to make it “ok” to fail and mess up every now and then.

Understanding that it all is apart of the process to reach and achieve my goals and dreams in life.  To become the best version of myself.  You can experience so much more in life when you don’t look at disappointments and failures as some terrible mishap in life.

Just for a second, look at Abraham Lincoln.  How many times did he fail over and over again before he actually was elected President Of The United States?  Look at Steve Jobs.  A remarkable man who went through disappointment after disappointment before he actually achieved success.  And then when he achieved success, he was hit again with being fired from the company he founded!

Look at Albert Einstein.  How many times did he fail over and over again before once and for all breaking through?  These are three remarkable men who achieved remarkable success who all went through very difficult and tough times.  What they didn’t do though is let the hits they took from life keep them down.  When things went wrong, they didn’t go with them!

They never forgot how powerful and special they truly were.  If you make the decision to tell yourself daily how special you are, start listing all of your unique qualities, no setback or failure will ever be able to hold you back.

Here are five ways you can start to remind yourself daily on how powerful you really are.

1.)  Get in the habit of writing in a gratitude journal. When things go wrong in life and being able to sit down and start listing all you are thankful for, your happiness will be rekindled and you soon will feel a sense of accomplishment.  Even small successes will keep you reminded that you have been successful in the past and that you will be successful in the present and future.

2.)  Continually review and look at your long term goals. Short term disappointments are less likely to derail your well being when you pay mind to all you wish to accomplish in the future.

3.) Striving and working to dig deeper in your spirituality journey. We all have different beliefs, but working to strengthen your spirit will help reinforce how powerful you are.  Whether that is going to church every Sunday, reading scripture throughout your day, or tapping into the power of meditation can help paint the positive picture of yourself.

4.) Find time to read 10-15 pages of something motivational, inspirational, or uplifting to help renew your mind and enlighten your day.  Just spending 10-15 minutes a day reading uplifting material can alone take your life to the next level.

5.) A habit that has positively impacted my life is keeping a notecard filled with powerful and moving quotes to help pick me up throughout the day.  Whenever I felt down or upset about something, I would take my notecard out and repeat over and over to myself the positive quotes that were written down.  This habit helps to interrupt all of the negative thoughts that are trying to take control of your thinking.

You are powerful.  Don’t ever lose sight of how powerful you really are.  Life will knock you down and derail your path, but you don’t have to give in!  Don’t let the tough times demoralize your beauty.  You have a unique skill set that no one else possesses.

You are here to make a difference and make this world a better place.  Just remember, you are far greater than any problem or circumstance that stands in your way!
